About Dustin McDaniel
Dustin McDaniel became the 55th Attorney General in 2007. He was recently sworn in to his second term, after being re-elected with strong support from all across the state.
Dustin has built his career in public service, protecting our families from anyone who would do them harm. It was this commitment to protecting families that drove him to begin his career as a uniformed patrol officer and later as a state legislator.
As Attorney General, Dustin has been a consumer advocate who tirelessly pursues their interests. He sued pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly who paid Arkansas more than $18.5 million dollars in the largest pharmaceutical settlement in state history.
Dustin cracked down on payday lenders that were charging interest rates of 500 to 900 percent, impacting mostly poor Arkansans. Payday lenders not only had to leave the state but had to void all loans and collections on Arkansas families.
Dustin kept his promise to protect our children from Internet predators, by establishing the Attorney General’s Office’s first cyber crimes unit. This unit is dedicated to finding, capturing, and prosecuting those who wish to harm our children.
Dustin knows Arkansas’s public schools must be the best in United States, and they can’t afford to be bogged down by courtroom litigation. McDaniel kept his promise to get us out of the Lakeview school case and keeps working to bring about an end to the Pulaski County desegregation case.
As Attorney General, McDaniel made Arkansas’s voice heard at the United States Supreme Court in support of our Second Amendment rights and on issues ranging from anti-trust law to protecting the dignity of veteran’s funerals. This leadership has led to many honors and leadership roles among his colleagues nationally.
A lifelong Arkansan, Dustin grew up in Jonesboro and attended public school there. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and received a J.D. from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock Bowen School of Law. Before becoming Attorney General, Dustin practiced at McDaniel & Wells in Jonesboro.
Dustin is married to Bobbi McDaniel and has one daughter, Emma Grace, and two stepchildren, CJ and Alex Fowler. In his free time, he enjoys being with his family. He is an avid hunter and a private pilot.
